Propagation
Collect and sow seed when ripe, keep moist, maintaining a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F) Germination normally takes up to 6 to 12 weeks and the viability period is short. Do not allow the seeds to dry out before sowing as this inhibits germination.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green costapalmate fronds are half way divided with linear segments with a split pendant.apex. The reddish petiole is up to 2m (6ft) long with prominent thorns along the margins.
Flower: The creamy-yellow crateriform flowers are arranged on a pendulous branched panicle that is up to 2.2m (7ft) long, appearing from the leaf bases and is sheathed in brown bracts that have a woolly appearance. They appear from late spring to early summer.
Fruit: The blue-grey spherical berry has a dull thin waxy coat and is arranged in a large dense cluster and is a feature of the plant.
