Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º to 64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification.
Division of the rhizome, including a growing tip during spring.


Botanic information
Leaf: The blue-green leaves are broad elliptical with pinnate venation, obtuse apex and are up to 45mm (1½ft) wide. The long petiole is sheathed and the texture is thin-leathery.

Flower: The funnelform flower consists of 3-narrow pointed sepals and 3-petals that are united at the base to form a tube. It has a petal-like stamen and 1 to 4 petal-like staminodes with the inner one reflexed to form a lip. The flowers are arranged in a terminal panicle and appear during midsummer.

Fruit: The wort textured 3-valved capsule contains very hard black seeds with 10 to 12 per capsule. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
