Propagation
Collect and sow seed when ripe, keep moist, maintaining a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F) Germination normally takes up to 30 days and the viability period is short.

Do not allow the seeds to dry out before sowing as this inhibits germination.


Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green costapalmate fronds are almost circular when young, becoming hemispherical and deeply divided into about 40 stiff, leathery linear segments with pendant pointed tips. The unarmed petiole is up to 1m (3ft) long radiating from the trunk to form a rounded crown.

Flower: The cyathiform male and female flowers appear on different plants but both have whitish overlapping bowl-shaped bracts. They are arranged in a pendant panicle up to 800mm (20in) long appearing among the leaves during early summer.

Fruit: The oblong drupe is a dark blue colour covered in a whitish wax.
