Botanic information
Leaf: The leathery sessile leaves are elliptical to oblong and are arranged in whorls of 3-4. The apex is acute and pointed (mucronate) and the underside is pail green.
Flower: The 2-lipped ladiate flower is composed of 2-upper lobes and 3-lower lobes and is solitary or in pairs in the leaf axils. The colour is purple with darker spots in the throat and the flowers appear during spring.
Fruit: The tiny nutlets are in groups of 4 and are enclosed in the persistent calyx. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
