Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F). Seeds may require scarification by nicking the seed coat and soaking in water for 24 hours.

Semi-hardwood cuttings taken during late summer to autumn. Layering during the growing period.


Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green leaves are ovate to oblong with an acuminate apex and a short petiole. The new growth is bronze-pink towards the tips and the leaves are arranged on reddish branchlets.

Flower: The crimson-maroon flowers are tubulate to urceolate with pale yellow tips and arranged in racemes that are up to 60mm (2½in) long. In bud the flower is accompanied by a large scarlet bract and the flowering period is from late spring to summer.

Fruit: The small capsule contains hard coated seeds that are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
