Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours.
Seeds may require scarification (peeling treatment). Semi hardwood cuttings taken during late summer to autumn, up to 50mm (2in) long and dipped into hormone powder.
Grafted forms on to Grevillea robusta are available.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green pinnate leaves have stiff linear leaflets with a mucronate apex. The underside has white hairs with a prominentmid riband slightly hidden by the recurved margins.
Flower: The tubulate flowers have a short pedicle and a bright red style up to 25mm (1in) long. The flowers are arranged in a one-sided raceme up to 95mm (3µin) long appearing amongst the foliage on a short peduncle. They appear form winter to summer and are bird pollinated.
Fruit: The ovoid follicle is up to 9mm (?in) wide with a thin pericarp and contain smooth oblong seeds to 9mm (?in) long with a waxy apical wing. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
