Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification (peeling treatment).
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during late summer to autumn, up to 50mm (2in) long and dipped into hormone powder.
Botanic information
Leaf: The slightly curled dark green linear leaves have a short petiole and vary in size. The apex is obtuse and the glabrous upper surface has a prominentmid rib. They appear congested on the plant overlapping each other.
Flower: The tubulate flowers have a short pedicle with ovoid perianth segments and a red style up to 20mm (µin) long.Two to six flowers are arranged in a small terminal cluster that is held amongst the foliage on a leafless floral branch, (peduncle) up to 2.5m (7ft) long and appear from autumn to winter.
Fruit: The elliptical follicle is up to 10mm (?in) wide with a thick pericarp. The smooth seed are up to 8mm (?in) long s with a membranous waxy wing around the margin. The small seeds are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
