Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification (peeling treatment).
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during late spring, up to 50mm (2in) long and dipped into hormone powder.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are ovate to elliptical with an obtuse apex and a short petiole. The glabrous upper surface has prominentvenation and the underside may be covered in silky hairs.
Flower: The tubulate flowers have a pedicle up to 4mm (?in) long with oblong perianth segments and the curved style is up to 20mm (1in) long with an oblong pollen presenter. The greyish red flowers are arranged in a one sided raceme up to 80mm (3?in) long. They appear in early summer and are bird pollinated.
Fruit: The red brown elliptical follicle is up to 6mm (¥in) wide with a thin tomentose pericarp and contains ellipsoidal seeds to 10mm (?in) long with a narrow wing around the margin. The small seeds are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
