Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring or when available in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate. Pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification.
Pruning
Tolerates a light prune after flowering back to a node, remove any dead wood back to the collar. If there is insufficient light towards the base of the tree prune the crown to allow the light in. The plants tend to be easily damaged by wind or borers, and damaged material should be removed.
Botanic information
Leaf: The light green bipinnate phillodes have crowded leaflets that have up to 20-pairs of small linear pinnules to 4mm (?in) long. The phillods are arranged alternately along white pubescent branchlets giving rise to the plant name.
Flower: The bisexual tubulate flowers have inconspicuous sepals and petals with prominentstamens and form ball-shaped cluster on a smooth or pubescent peduncle. There are up to 20 clusters are arranged in an axillary raceme that is up to 80mm (3 ?in) long and appears during late winter.
Fruit: The red-brown pod has a thin texture and is slightly constricted between the seeds. The black seeds are up to 4mm (?in) long and have a whitish aril.
