Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring or when available in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate. Pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification.
Pruning
Tolerates a light prune after flowering back to a node, remove any dead wood back to the collar. If there is insufficient light towards the base of the tree prune the crown to allow the light in. The plants tend to be easily damaged by wind or borers, and damaged material should be removed.
Botanic information
Leaf: The long dull green linear phyllodes taper at the base and have nerve-like margins with a prominent central rib.
Flower: The tiny tubulate bisexual flowers have inconspicuous sepals and petals with prominentstamens. They are arranged in a small dense spike up to 10mm (?in) long appearing in the leaf axils from late winter to early spring.
Fruit: The dull brown stiff pod has nerve-like margins and is constricted between the seeds. The oval seeds are shinny black, up to 4mm (?in) long and have a cap like aril.
