Propagation
Collect and sow seed when ripe, keep moist, maintaining a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F) Germination normally takes up to 30 days and the viability period is short. Do not allow the seeds to dry out before sowing as this slows or inhibits germination.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green pinnate fronds have arching linear segments that have a prominent midrib and are arranged equally along the rachis. The short petiole is sheathed at the base and the leaves are slightly arching.
Flower: The fleshy panicle appears below the fronds and is inclosed in 2-deciduous bracts. The peduncle is short and the rachis has several branches that divide in to rachillae with small pale mauve cyathiform flowers that are arranged with 2-males to 1-female. The flowers appear during summer.
The asymmetrical male flowers have 3-sepals that are slightly imbricate, 3-petals that are valvate and contain 6-stamens and a sterile cylindrical pistil. The symmetrical female flowers have 3-imbricate sepals and petals and contain a single celled pistil, with 1-ovule.
Fruit: The berry-like drupe is dull reddish-brown with a fleshy-fibrous mesocarp and are arranged densely in a pendulous cluster. The flowering and fruiting period may vary.
