Propagation
Plant fresh seeds in a deep container during spring, keep moist and maintain a temperature of 25ºC (77º F).
Germination takes up to 90 days and do not allow the seed to dry out before sowing. Dry seed germinate more slowly.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark glossy green palmate fronds have a rounded outline and are divided up to half way into tapering lanceolate segments, that are pendant towards the tips. The upper surface is glossy olive-green and the underside is silvery.
Flower: The solitary bisexual cyathiform flowers have 5 to 7 lobed perianth segments and arranged spirally on the rachillae. The 600mm (2ft) long branched panicle has several tubular bracts at the base, sheaving at each primary branch which divides into a slender rachillae. The flowering period is during summer but may vary in tropical regions.
Fruit: The small fleshy berry-like drupe is green maturing to purplish black. The seed is grooved (sulcate) and has endosperm.
