Propagation
Sow seed when ripe and keep moist, maintaining a temperature of 25ºC (77º F). Germination takes up to 90 days to 1-year germinating sporadically. Do not allow the seeds to dry out before sowing.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green pinnate fronds have 13 to 16 segments on each side of the rachis and are up to 280mm (11in) long The slender arching peduncle is up to 800mm (30in) long and the rachis is yellow-green on the underside.
Flower: The urceolate male and female greenish-yellow flowers appear in a panicle from the leaf bases. They can grow to 440mm (18in) long, but are commonly hidden amongst the foliage. The flowering period is during summer but may vary in tropical regions.
Fruit: The small globose berry-like drupe is bright red maturing to black.
Culture
In cold climates this palm can be grown in pots or tubs under glasshouse conditions, requiring ample water and a humid environment.
