Propagation
Sow seed when ripe and keep moist, maintaining a temperature of 25ºC (77º F). Germination takes up to 30 days. Do not allow the seeds to dry out before sowing and the viability period is short.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green pinnate fronds have a broad-lanceolate leaflets that are pendant at the toothed tips and crowded along the rachis in one plane. The slender unarmed petiole is up to 300mm (1ft) long arching out from the crown.
Flower: The small branched inflorescence appears below the crown shaft and has many rachillae with pairs of male flowers on the top and female flowers on the lower part. They have a lemon scent and the flowering period may vary in tropical regions.
Fruit: The oval-shaped drupe is brown maturing to bright orange-red and is arranged in clusters.
