Propagation
Plant new seeds in a deep container during spring, keep moist and maintain a temperature of 25ºC (77º F). Germination takes up to 30 days and do not allow the seed to dry out before sowing.

Botanic information
Leaf: The pleated grey green costapalmate fronds have wedged-shaped outline and the petiole is up to 1m (3ft) long extending slightly into the leaf. The segments are linear and are divided halfway into the frond and taper to a pendant split point. The petiole is covered in whitish tomentum.

Flower: The bisexual cyathiform flowers are elongated in bud with 3-sepals and 3-petals that fall when the flower opens. They are arranged in a panicle that arises from the leaf bases extending past the crown on a long peduncle during summer.

Note
The inflorescence is enclosed by a series of tubular bracts that persist. In tropical regions the flowering period may occur through out the year.

Fruit: The globose drupe has a persistent calyx at the base and contains one seed with endosperm. The mesocarp is slightly fleshy with longitudinal fibres and matures brown. The small seeds have a short viability period but germinate readily.
