Propagation
Plant fresh seeds in a deep container to 150mm (6in) deep during spring, keep moist and maintain a temperature of 25ºC (77º F). Sporadic germination takes up to 18 months and do not allow the seed to dry out before sowing.

Note
This plant may be grown in cold climates in bright conservatories given enough space and may be used in commercial sites in border plantings. It may be obtained from a specialist nursery and is found in Botanical collections.

Botanic information
Leaf: The mid green costapalmate fronds have up to 50 tapering segments that have a thin texture and become pendant. The broad petiole up to 2m (6ft) long and is armed on margins at the base with a short hastula. It is tinged in yellow and extends along the veins of the segments.

Note
The protruding petiole causes the leaves to fold, forming a 'V' shape.

Flower: The yellowish-brown cyathiform male and female flowers found on different plants (.dioecious). The inflorescence is long with many male rachillae that are up to 300mm (1ft) long. It appears amongst the leaf bases and has sheaved in tubular bracts, appearing during summer.

Note
Male flowers are solitary with 3-slightly united sepals and petals and many stamens. The larger sessile female flower is solitary with 3-sepals and petals that are imbricate towards the base and the pistil has 3-cells and 3-ovules. The flowering period

Fruit: The rounded drupe has a fleshy-fibrous mesocarp and contains 1 to 3 grooved seeds. The seeds have homogeneous endosperm.
