Propagation
Plant fresh seeds in a deep container during spring, keep moist and maintain a temperature of 25ºC (77º F). Germination takes up to 30 days and do not allow the seed to dry out before sowing. Dry seed germinate more slowly.


Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green costapalmate fronds are almost circular in outline with upward pointing, stiff tapering segments that is divided to one third in the leaf. The grey-green underside has a waxy bloom and the broad petiole is up to 1300mm (4ft) long with dark spines along the edges.

Flower: The small bisexual crateriform flowers have 3-sepals. They are arranged densely in the much branched panicle that is up to 3m (10ft) long and appears from the leaf bases. The flowering period in in summer but may vary in tropical regions.

Fruit: The ovoid berry-like drupe is up to 18mm (?in) wide and is brown maturing to black.
