Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F).
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during summer and apply bottom heat.
Layering during the growing period.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are ovate to elliptical and the margin has shallow scallops or serrations. The texture is leathery with 3-prominate veins on the upper surface and the petiole is up to 30mm (¥in) long. The apex is acuminate; base truncate to cuneate.
Flower: The 2-lipped salverform flowers are accompanied by 2-deep red bracts. It has a reddish tube with reflexed petals and a bright yellow throat. The upper lip is elongated and the stamens are white, pubescent at the top. The reddish pendant raceme is up to 600mm (2ft) long and appears from early to late summer.
Fruit: The small spherical capsule has a beaked upper part. It opens longitudinally and has 2-valves with flat seeds. The small seeds are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
