Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring and pre-soak seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification (peeling treatment).
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during late summer to autumn, up to 50mm (2in) long and dipped into hormone powder.
Botanic information
Leaf: The sessile leaves are pinnatisect, 2 to 3 times divided with terete acicular leaflets up to 80mm (3?in) longthat are arranged at right angles to each other. The surface is glabrous and the new growth has silky hairs.
Flower: The tiny tubulate flowers have a pedicle up to 9mm (?in) long and the exserted thickish style is up to 6mm (¥in) long. The flowers are arranged in a terminal cylindrical spike 50 (2in) to 200mm (8in) long and 45mm (1µin) wide. They are bird pollinated and appear during late winter.
Fruit: The oblong follicle is up to 7mm (¥in) wide with a thin pericarp and contains ellipsoidal seeds that are up to 10mm (?in) long with compressed margins. The small seeds are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
