Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F).
Semi-hardwood cuttings taken during summer apply bottom heat.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green leaves are elliptical to oblanceolate with 25 to 50 deep pinnate veins. The texture is leathery and the petiole is short.
Flower: The large pendant cyathiform flowers have 5-waxy white petals and numerous yellowish stamens and appear in upper leaf axils on a long pedicel. The flowering period may vary in tropical climates but normally occurs in spring.
Fruit: The large spherical acidic capsule contains editable gelatinous pulp that is embedded with many seeds. Chulta is the Indian name that is given to the pulp when used in curries or jellies.
