Botanic information
Leaf: The arching pinnate leathery leaves have sickle-shaped (falcate) leaflets up to 300mm (1ft) long with a prominent mid vein and no laterals. The apex is pointed and the spent leaves may form a skirt around the trunk.

Flower: The male and female flowers appear on different plants (dioecious). The male appears as a cylindrical cone and the female is composed of modified leaves that have ovules on the margins. They appear during spring.

Fruit: The large ovoid nut-like seeds have a fleshy outer coat and are produced in a nest-like group inside the leaf rosette. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
