Propagation
Seeds require scarification by nicking the seed coat and soaking in water for 24 hours. Sow seed when ripe in a prepared bed.
Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green pinnate leaves have 3 to 5 short stalked leaflets with the 2-basil being the smallest and the leaf has a petiole up to 125mm (5in) long. The leaflets are obovate to oblong with undulating margins with an acute apex and the venation is pinnate.
Flower: The red cyathiform flowers have a pubescent corolla with 2-upper lips that are arched and a 3-lobed lower lip. They are arranged in an axillary panicle that appears from winter to spring and sporadically throughout the year.
Fruit: The globose drupe is bright red and is arranged in clusters and the seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
