Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate in cool climates.

Semi hardwood cuttings taken during summer and placed on a misting bench.
Division of suckers during late spring to early summer.


Botanic information
Leaf: The thick leathery glossy dark green ovate leaves are bronze when young and have a short petiole with a slightly cordate base. The apex is acute to acuminate and the leaves are arranged alternately on reddish pubescent stems.

Flower: The small flowers are campanulate to urceolate with 4 to 5 lobes and are arranged in a nodding axillary raceme that is up to 25mm (1in) long and appears during spring.

Fruit: The glossy black berries are spherical and are accompanied by a persistent calyx. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
