Propagation
Stratify seeds for 2 to 3 months during winter and sow seeds in pots then place them in an cold frame.
Hardwood cuttings taken from summer to autumn.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are elliptical to slightly oval to 65mm (2½in) wide with an acuminate apex and the reddish petiole is up to 25mm (1in) long. The leathery upper surface is conspicuously 3-viened and the margin is sharply toothed towards the apex.
Flower: The small flowers have pink buds that open with a short tube and 5-spreading petals and male and female are found in dufferent plants (dioecious). They are arranged in a flattened terminal peduncled cyme that is up to 75mm (3in) wide and appears from late spring to early summer.
Fruit: The ovoid drupe is metallic blue and both male and female plants are required to produce fruit. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
