Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F) in pots and placed in a cold frame.
Soft tip cuttings in spring and semi hardwood cuttings taken during summer.
Division of the clump during spring.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are oblong to lanceolate with a reddish pubescent petiole and an acute apex.
Flower: The tubulate flowers have a very pubescent green calyx, with reddish margins and the mauve-blue corolla is 2-lipped. The upper lip is dark purple and pubescent and the pale mauve lower lip is spreading with a white throat with purple spots. They appear in a spike during summer.
Fruit: The small nutlet develops inside the calyx and produces viable seed but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
