Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F).
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during summer.
General pruning information
Lightly trim after flowering to thicken up, don`t cut back into old wood as it will encourage dieback and generally will not rejuvenate. The plant may die back from excessive rich soils.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are leathery with an obtuse to emarginate apex and a cuneate base with a short thick petiole. The margin and petiole may be tinged in red and the leaf is concolorous.
Flower: The small tubulate flowers are arranged in a terminal head to 75mm (3in) wide and 90mm (3½in) long. This enclosed in an involucre of imbricated green-pink bracts that are tipped in red with a white pubescent margins. They appear from winter to early spring.
Fruit: The fruit is a bearded nut and the small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
