Propagation
Surface sow fresh seed during spring in a well-drained media, and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F). Prick out and pot up when they are large enough to handle.
Semi-hardwood cuttings taken during summer apply bottom heat. Air layering during the growing period.
When planting out select a position where the roots are in the shade, and mulch during establishment.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are oblong to broad-ovate and is up to 20mm (µin) wide, with an obtuse apex and a leathery texture. The leaf undersides and the 4mm (?in) long petiole and the terete branchlets are all densely covered in white tomentose.
Flower: The cyathiform flowers have deltoid sepals that are tipped with a gland and small pubescent oblong petals. The 20mm (µin) longcrimson filaments have yellow anthers and the flowers are arranged in a terminal cyme that appears during summer or may appear through the year.
Fruit: The woody capsule has exserted valves and the base is covered in white tomentose. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively to maintain true to type.
