Botanic information
Leaf: The light green leaves are elliptical to lanceolate and are covered in glandular dots. The upper surface has distinctive venation and the underside is pale green. The petiole is short and may have sharp spine in the axil. The leathery texture leaves have an obtuse apex.
Flower: The small fragrant white crateriform flowers have 5-sepals and petals and are arranged in an axillary cluster that appears from late spring to early summer.
Fruit: The small aromatic ovoid berry is yellow-orange when mature and consists of 5 to 6 cells in a fleshy centre with a sour taste but is used as a preservative. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
