Botanic information
Leaf: The modified cylindrical-spiny leaves are normally absent and the oppositely arranged flattened branchlets that carries out the photosynthesis for the plant. Each triangular-shaped branchlet is up to 35mm (1?in)long and terminates in a sharp point.

Flower: The tiny campanulate flowers have tubular a calyx with 5-spreading pointed lobes and no petals. The pedicle is bright green and the style is exserted with a yellowish stigma. The flowers are arranged in a cluster of up to 10 in the branchlets axils and appear during autumn.

Fruit: The small leathery capsule has 3-lobes and the tiny seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
