Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate in cool climates.
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during summer and placed on a misting bench.
Botanic information
Leaf: The bright green thick leathery leaves are broad-ovate to oblong with a short petiole to 20mm (µin) long and an uneven rounded base. The upper surface is glabrous and up to 120mm (4µin) wide.
Flower: The male cyathiform flowers have sepals and imbricate petals up to 15mm (?in) long and the female are apetalous with 3-styles. The tiny flowers are arranged in pubescent, branched axillary panicle and male and female flowers are found on separate tree appearing during spring.
Fruit: The fleshy dark purple drupe has a solitary seed. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively. Male and female trees are required to produce fruit.
