Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.
Semi hardwood cuttings taken during late summer to autumn.
Botanic information
Leaf: The aromatic leaves are broad-elliptical with an acuminate apex and have a very short petiole. The texture is leathery and the leaves are arranged in opposite pairs along reddish stems. The upper surface has pinnate venation.
Flower: The cyathiform flowers have 5-spreading petals with numerous long, exserted white stamens appearing from the centre. The flowers are solitary or in 3-flowered cymes appearing from the leaf axils from mid-summer to mid-autumn.
Fruit: The globose purplish-black berry is crowned with persistent calyx lobes. The small seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
