Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during autumn or stratify for three months prior to sowing in a prepared bed.


Botanic information
Leaf: The almost sessile dull green leaves are oblong to oblong-lanceolate with an acuminate apex. The upper and particularly the lower leaf surface are covered in fine pubescence. During autumn the leaves turn a golden yellow before falling.

Flower: The crateriform flowers have 5-sharply pointed triangular, pubescent sepals and 5-obovate petals with a cluster of long greenish filaments in the centre. The solitary flowers appear on short leafy shoots in spring are pollinated by bees.

Fruit: The apple-like brown to red pome has persistent sepals attached. The hard acidic fruit may be eaten once softened (bletted) but it is an acquired taste.
