Propagation
Stratify seeds for 2 to 3 months during winter in peat at a temperature of 1.1º to 5º C. (34º to 41º F). Sow seeds in pots then place them in a cold frame to germinate. Seedlings should be grown on in individual pots are at least one year with winter protection.

Note:
Care should be taken when selecting a sight as the tree has vigorous roots that can lift concrete and block drains.


Botanic information
Leaf: The linear leaves are arranged radically along the upper side of the branchlets leaving the underside of the stem exposed. The leaf is notched at the apex and are glossy green above with 2 greyish stomatic bands on the underside.

Flower: The female cones are upright, purplish to 140mm (5½in) tall and found towards the top of the crown during late spring.

Fruit: The cylindrical cones are a deep purple in colour and break up during autumn to release the seeds. The seeds may remain viable for up to 5-years.
