Propagation
Sow seed when ripe during autumn in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.
Divide established clumps in spring or autumn.
Botanic information
Leaf: The mid green leaves are ovate to oblong with a coarsely serrated margin. The apex is acute and the short petiole is reddish.
Flower: The small blue-mauve crateriform flowers have a white centre with 2-exserted stamens and are arranged in an erect axillary raceme up to 80mm (3in) long. They appear from spring to summer.
Fruit: The tiny flattened loculicidal capsule is notched and the small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
