Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F) in pots and placed in a cold frame.
Take soft tip cuttings in spring and semi hardwood cuttings taken during summer.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are oblong to elliptical and the pubescent surface is dotted with glands. The texture is leathery with an obtuse apex and the petiole is up to 7mm (¥in) long.
Flower: The red, purple or yellow to pink 2-lipped tubulate flowers have a bell-shaped calyx and the large lower lip is showy. They are arranged in pairs on a terminal raceme and the long flowering period is during late summer.
Fruit: The small nutlet develops inside the calyx and produces viable seed but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
