Propagation
Sow seed when ripe during autumn in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.
Divide established clumps in spring or autumn.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are lanceolate to oblong and may be arranged in whorls of three. The apex is acute and the base is cuneate with a short petiole. The margin has uneven serrations and the leaf has a papery texture.
Flower: The small tubulate flowers have lilac petals with 2-exserted stamens and are arranged in a dense terminal raceme that is up to 250mm (10in) tall and appears during late summer.
Fruit: The tiny flattened loculicidal capsule is notched and the small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
