Propagation
Sow fresh seed during early spring or when available in pots then place in a cold frame to germinate. Pre-soak the seeds in heated water 13º to 18ºC (55º-64ºF) for 24 hours. Seeds may require scarification.
Botanic information
Leaf: The narrow dark green linear phyllodes are reddish when young and have a tapering apex that is hooked.
Flower: The bisexual tubulate flowers have 4 to 5 inconspicuous sepals and petals. The stamens are prominentand the profuse flowers are arranged in an axillary raceme towards the end of the branches that appears from late winter to early spring.
Fruit: The dehiscent pod is contracted between the seeds and is up to 7mm (¥in) wide. The seeds are viable and may require scarification prior to sowing.
Pruning
Tolerates a light prune after flowering back to a node, remove any dead wood back to the collar. If there is insufficient light towards the base of the tree prune the crown to allow the light in. The plants tend to be easily damaged by wind or borers, and damaged material should be removed.
