Propagation
Sow fresh seeds during spring in flats and maintain a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F). Prick out when large enough to handle and pot up.
Divide offsets during spring and place in a container or plant in situ.
Take leaf cuttings from spring to summer and placed in a protected environment until roots appear, then pot up.
Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green oblong to lanceolate thick succulent leaves are up to 70 mm (2? in) long with an reddish acute apex. They have long thread-like pale brown translucent spines along margins and keel, this is a feature of the plant. They are arranged in a dense rosette and are overlapping.
Flower: The white 2-lipped tubulate to funnelform flowers are up to 17 mm (? in) long and are arranged in a raceme that is up to 80 mm (3? in) long. This is held high above the foliage on a slender scape that is up to 300 mm (1 ft) tall and appears from the centre of the rosette during spring.
Fruit: The tiny loculicidal capsule has 3-valves and contains several seeds that are viable but the plant is normally reproduced vegetatively.
