Propagation
Sow seed when ripe in pots and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F), apply bottom heat. Germination takes 3 to 12 months.
Division of suckers during spring.
Botanic information
Leaf: The arching fronds have long linear leaflets that are sharply acuminate and are arranged evenly and oppositely along the rachis. The petiole spreads towards the base clasping the trunk and fall away and not forming a crown shaft.
Flower: The 2-male and 1-female crateriform flowers are found in groups along the inflorescence that is up to 1m (3ft) long. The spike is upright at first becoming pendant and appears amongst the fronds. The male flowers have 3-sepals and petals, falling before the female opens from alte spring to early summer.
Fruit: The fleshy elliptical-shaped drupe is yellowish maturing to glossy dark red and is arranged densely along the pendant spike.
