Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green leaves are glabrous with a soft texture and are elliptical to oblong-lanceolate. The apex is acute and a petiole up to 5mm (?in) long.
Flower: The crateriform flowers have a green cap that falls away to reveal many petal-like staminodes. There are 2-rows of stamens, the outer fertile and inner infertile which are sacrificial to the pollinating beetle (Elleschodes species). They appear during spring.
Fruit: The cup-shaped berry is woody and has a short stalk. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
