Propagation
Surface sow fresh seed during spring in a well-drained media, and maintain a temperature of 16º to 18º C. (61º to 64º F). Prick out and pot up when they are large enough to handle.
Take cuttings of non-flowering shoots during late spring to early summer.
Botanic information
Leaf: The sessile acicular leaves are terete or flattened with a sharp point and are covered in fine whitish hairs giving the plant a soft textured appearance.
Flower: The tubulate flower has long stamens that are joined at the base in groups of 4 to 5 and are exserted pendently from the flowers (claw-like). The flowers are arranged in an axillary one sided spike that is up to 100mm (4in) long and appear from spring to summer. They are a feature of the plant.
Fruit: The oblong woody capsule has 4-exserted valves and contains numerous small seeds. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
