Propagation
Stratify seeds for 2 to 3 months during winter and sow seeds in pots then place them in an open frame to establish. Maintain a temperature of 10º to 13º C. (50º to 55º F).


Botanic information
Leaf: When young the ovate leaves are silky pubescent and the mature leaves have parallel veins on the upper surface with an acuminate apex and a short petiole. During autumn the leaves turn yellow before falling.

Flower: The pendant male flowers are little golden tassels on golden stalks and appear in spring with the new leaves. The cyathiform (cup-shaped) female flowers are upright with pink and green tinged silver filaments appearing at the tips of the branches.

Fruit: The nuts protude from the husk by two thirds and the pair of triangular glossy brown fruit are enclosed in a prickly 4-lobed involucre (husk).
