Propagation
Sow seed when ripe in pots, then place in a cold frame to germinate and seeds may require scarification or pre soaking in acidic water for several hours.

Divide established clumps in spring.

This species may be difficult to obtain from nurseries.

Botanic information
Leaf: The bright green linear leaves vary in length according to the sub-species, but generally are channelled with recurved margins and small teeth at the apex.

Flower: The unisexual stellate flowers have 3-blackish sepals and 3-pointed yellow petals. They are arranged in a cluster with spiny bracts at the base and are appear in a spike during midsummer. The male and female flowers are born on different plants.

Fruit: The small globular capsule produces small seeds that are viable, but the plant may be easily reproduced vegetatively
