Propagation
Sow fresh seed during autumn or spring in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.
Take semi-hardwood cuttings taken during late summer to autumn.
Note:
It is moderately deer resistant.
Botanic information
Leaf: The leaves are ovate to oval and the apex is acute or may have a small point. The texture is leathery and glabrous with a petiole up to 6mm (¥in) long. The brownish buds are glabrous up to 6mm (¥in) long and are 4-sided.
Flower: The numerous tubulate flowers have a very short tube with 4-spreading lobes and are arranged in a terminal panicle that is up to 150mm (6in) long. They appear during midsummer.
Fruit: The black bery-like drupe is arranged in drooping clusters and the seeds are very viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
