Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.
Take semi-hardwood cuttings taken during summer and apply bottom heat.
Culture
Prune regularly to maintain a compact shape and encourage flowering using hedge clippers. Cutting back old woody plants hard may cause dieback.
Botanic information
Leaf: The aromatic sessile leaves are narrow oblong to linear,and are pubescent. The apex is acute and the margins are rolled downwards.
Flower: The tiny 2-lipped tubular flowers appear with green bracts and have oil glands at the base that produce the lavender scent. They are arranged in a dense oblong terminal spike that is up to 30mm (1¥in) long on a leafy scape held above the foliage during midsummer.
Fruit: The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
