Propagation
Take semi-hardwood cuttings from summer to autumn, including a heel from the main branch. Remove a branchlet from the main stem by cutting or tearing; include a piece of stem bark. Strip lower leaves and wilting tips with a sharp knife the insert cuttings 25mm (1in) into the media place in cold frame.

Sow seed when ripe during autumn in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate which may take up to 5 years.

General pruning information
This plant requires little pruning as it maintains a compact habit. Prostrate species may be lightly trimmed to contain but avoid cutting back to old wood as it will not regenerate.


Botanic information
Leaf: The small sessile linear leaves are arranged in whorls of 3-4 and have a pointed apex. It hs double stomatic bands on the inside of the leaves.

Flower: The tree is dioecious and the male flowers are united into a oblong catkin-like cone and the female flowers are composed of up to 8-valvate scales that contain 1 to 2 ovules.

Fruit: The small spherical berry-like cone and takes up to 18 months to ripen and is orange-red. It has 2-whorls of 6-fused scales and 3-large scales that contain a single seed. The seeds are viable but the plant may be reproduced vegetatively.
