Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 27º to 30º C. (81º to 86º F).

Divide established clumps during late spring to early summer.


Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leathery leaves are narrow lanceolate and tapering to an acuminate apex. They are slightly concave and the margins have sharp spines. The leaves are arranged in rosettes with up to 50 leaves with the underside covered in greyish scales.

Flower: The small pink tubulate flowers are arranged in a terminal head that is surrounded by pink pointed bracts. They appear during midsummer.

Fruit: The small ovoid berries contain rounded brown seeds that areviable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.


Temperature

The plants require a minimum temperature of 12.7ºC (55ºF)and may require a temperature of 24ºC (75ºF)to produce flowers.

Light
Most exotic bromeliaeds require bright indirect light only plants simular to Pineapples requiring full sun.

Water
These plants require well drained media and should be watered regular and kept moist but not wet. The vase forms should be filled with fresh water monthly and a humid environment is required. This may be achieved with regular misting of the foliage. Foliar fertiliser may be sprayed onto the foliage every 4 to 5 weeks during summer.
