Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.

Divide established clumps in spring.


Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green sagittate leaves upper surface is coarsely textured and the underside is covered in white tomentose. The apex is obtuse and the petiole is short and clasps the squared stem. When crushed they are aromatic.

Flower: The crimson tubulate flowers are 2-lipped with the upper one forming a hood and the lower lip is split into three and are spreading. They are arranged in a dense cluster on a tall scape and appear during midsummer.

Fruit: The small nuts contain viable seed that develop inside the persistent calyx. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
