Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring in pots and place in a cold frame to germinate.

Take semi-hardwood cuttings during summer.

This species may be difficult to obtain in some countries.


Botanic information
Leaf: The dark green leaves are oblong to elliptical and has a leathery texture. The underside is densely covered in whitish pubescence that gives it a woolly appearance. The petiole is short and the apex is obtuse with a small point.

Flower: The tiny apetalous male flowers are arranged in a pendant catkins-like raceme that is up to 200mm (8in) long. The female raceme is up to 100mm (4in) long and produces fruit. The male flowering plants are normally cultivated. The flowers appear from late winter to early spring.

Fruit: The purplish berry-like drupe is produced on female plants. The small seeds are viable but the plant is commonly reproduced vegetatively.
