Propagation
Sow fresh seed during spring and maintain a temperature of 19º to 27º C. (66º to 81º F).
Note:
There are many forms of this plant, as it has been crossed with other Phoenix species but normally results in a plant with thicker trunk
Botanic information
Leaf: The glossy dark green pinnate fronds have long linear leaflets that are arranged oppositely or at different angles along the rachis. The leaflets are recurved at the base and the lower leaflets reduced to sharp spines.
Flower: The male and female flowers appear on separate trees (dioecious) and are arranged in a branched panicle that is up to 450mm (18in) long. It has distinctive boat-shaped bracts and the inflorescence appears from the leaf bases during summer.
Fruit: The dry egg-shaped drupe is orange-red maturing to black and appears abundantly on female plants.
